Another Joni Mitchell cover song - to start off the new year! Happy 2023!
11 years ago, I sang the same song, on my debut, "Kami Maltz" show in Tel Aviv.
with long hair and accompanied by an upright bass only, I decided to give this song I liked my best shot. (and I think I might keep making different versions of this song as the years pass by - a little way to reflect on my own life - Billie Eilish Vanity Fair interviews anyone?)
Did I get the deep meaning of the lyrics? watching the video briefly now, I think I didn't.
I think I was more focused on singing nicely and engaging with the crowd.
Nowadays, an older person with a bit more life experiences, I think I get it better.
People change, life changes you and your perspective, goals and dreams shift or fade.
The older we get the more we understand - that we know nothing about this thing called "life", and I think this is essentially what Joni meant in her lyrics.
